Dr Candice Chintis

Dr. Candice Chintis has lived in Tucson since 1982. She completed her undergraduate work at the University of Arizona and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Science. Dr. Chintis completed her veterinary degree at Colorado State University earning honorary membership into Phi Zeta, the honor society for veterinary medicine. Her areas of interest include equine lameness, podiatry, and general medicine. She spent 8 years working as a technician at a mixed animal practice, and trained western performance horses for 18 years before going to veterinary school. Additionally, 15 years as a farrier provides an experienced and knowledgeable partner with your farrier when addressing performance, corrective or preventative podiatry needs.

Avra Equine specializes in the rehabilitation and conditioning of equine athletes and offers a variety of treatment options to best fit your horse’s individual needs.


The ECB Aqua Treadmill allows horses to exercise in a controlled environment, using natural gaits without undue stress or trauma making it a powerful tool for conditioning, rehabilitation after surgery or injury, and for the treatment of many injuries.


Cold Salt Hydrotherapy is used to treat and prevent a multitude of injuries in 35°F / 2°C saltwater. It is also used to increase mobility and reduce swelling in the limbs before and after competitive events and training.
